Significant investment from Sound Transit—a bus rapid transit line and a new park-and-ride structure likely in the vicinity of Town Center—presents an opportunity for the community to shape the long-term vision for the heart of Lake Forest Park. Community feedback informed the Town Center Vision, which will serve as a framework to help City Council develop policies for land use, zoning, and connections within Town Center.

Lake Forest Park is studying the state highways within city limits—Bothell Way NE (SR 522) and Ballinger Way NE (SR 104)—to explore ways to make them safer, more accommodating to transit, and more walkable and bikeable.

The City is studying its surface streets to make them safer for pedestrians and cyclists, and increase safe connections to transit and amenities such as Town Center, the Burke-Gilman and Interurban Trails, parks, and schools.

The Lyon Creek culverts at 35th Avenue NE, NE 185th Street, and SR 104 are undersized and create a barrier to fish passage. With flood reduction grant funds from King County and the Washington State transportation budget, the City is redesigning and replacing these culverts to improve stream health while maintaining critical infrastructure. Another culvert at 178th was also studied and its replacement is being designed by a King County Flood Control District grant.

The Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails Plan (PROS-T Plan) is assessing how well the City’s parks, open spaces, and recreational programs are serving the community and proposing improvements to meet evolving needs.
